Latest Ram Recruit Eager to Do Whatever It Takes

By Greg Urbanoski

The latest recruit of the University of Regina Rams does have more than a passing interest in the team.

Jesse Elford, a 6’ ½” 194 lb running back from Notre Dame College in Wilcox, always had the idea in the back of his mind he’d like to play for the Rams one day.

But then again, he comes by it honestly. His father, Glen Elford, played for the Rams in 1970’s.

“I always had the idea in the back of my mind that I would play here,” said Elford. “My Dad played for the Rams when they were in the junior program and they’ve become a pretty good university program”.

“I have a pretty good idea what I’ll be taking here for classes. The Rams definitely made a good first impression on my parents and me and Coach Frank McCrystal has been real welcoming.”

Elford is looking at taking general arts classes and is considering specializing in Criminal Justice. He is looking forward to taking part in Spring Camp.

“I liked what I saw with the facilities all decked out. Having everything together in one place, the field, the locker room, training facilities and the classrooms, is really spectacular,” said Elford.

Elford will continue to train at Notre Dame as he preps for Spring Camp, set to start April 28. He will continue to lift weights and run three miles a day as he gets set to measure his ability against other university talent.

He recorded an incline bench press of 200, a vertical of 26 inches and ran a 4.72 - 40.

“I think I’m going in as a running back but I’m not sure yet,” said Elford. “I’d like to give it my all during training camp but I’m not sure where I will fit in.

“I’d like to contribute to the team anyway I can, be it playing regularly or on special teams. Making the jump from high school to university ball is going to be huge but I’m going to keep an open mind and see how I stack up with the other guys at spring camp.”
