Rams Add Three to
Recruiting Class
REGINA, Sask. - The University of Regina Rams announced Monday
that the program has added three recruits for the 2007 season.
Jesse Elford, Scott Magee, and Jason Price will all attend the U
of R beginning in the fall.
Jesse Elford, who measures in at 6'1" and 194 lbs., is a
linebacker and running back out of Notre Dame College in Wilcox.
A Stewart Conference all-star running back, Elford helped the
Hounds advance to the quarterfinals of the Saskatchewan 3A
provincial championship. Elford's father Glen played for the Rams
in the 1970s when the team was still in junior football.
"Jesse is very much a two-way player," Rams head coach
Frank McCrystal said. "He has size, speed, and athleticism,
and we will partner with Jesse to determine which position he'll
best fit in as a Ram."
A 6'2", 210 lb. linebacker, Scott Magee spent the 2006
season with the Regina Thunder of the Prairie Football
Conference. He earned several postseason awards for his stellar
play during the season, highlighted by a PFC Defensive Player of
the Year award. He was also a Canadian Junior Football League
All-Canadian, a PFC All-Star, and the PFC Outstanding
Linebacker. Magee also earned the Thunder Leadership Award at
season's end.
"Scott is one of the elite
junior players in Canada," McCrystal said. "He's been a
dominant player in junior for the last three years, and we look
for him to have a similar impact on the team as Steve Wilson has
had."
Price, a 6'6" receiver, was a multi-sport athlete at
Sheldon-Williams Collegiate in Regina. His touchdown reception in
the provincial final in November helped the Spartans take home
the Saskatchewan 4A championship in a 24-23 win over Saskatoon's
Evan Hardy Collegiate. Price was also a post on Sheldon's 5A
provincial championship-winning basketball team.
"Jason is one of the top recruits in the province and maybe
the country," McCrystal said. "He has size and speed
and his athletic ability bodes will for a great future. Given the
right circumstances, Jason has the ability to play beyond this
level."
All three players will see their first action with the Rams at
their spring camp, scheduled for April 27 through April 29.
