REGINA – Wide receiver Jordan Sisco rushed for two
touchdowns, caught another, and set a school single-game record
with 228 receiving yards to help the University of Regina Rams
move into sole possession of second place in Canada West after
a 35-16 win over the Alberta Golden Bears on Saturday afternoon
at Mosaic Stadium.
The No. 8-ranked Rams (5-1) entered the game in a tie for
second place in the conference with Saskatchewan, but moved
ahead of the Huskies thanks to Calgary’s last-second win in
Saskatoon earlier on Saturday. The win also clinched a playoff
berth for Regina.
Regina quarterback Teale Orban put up his usual gaudy numbers,
completing 21 of 39 passes for 416 yards and two touchdowns.
Orban needs just one more touchdown pass to tie Greg Vavra’s
Canada West career record of 63.
With his 228 receiving yards, Sisco broke Chris Bauman’s U of
R single-game record of 218, set against Simon Fraser on Sept.
23 of last year.
For Alberta, Quade Armstrong completed 24 of his 40 passes for
245 yards and two touchdowns, but also fired four
interceptions. Matthew Jarvis had a game-high 96 rushing yards
for the Golden Bears, who drop to 2-5 after the loss.
Defensively, Alberta’s Jean-Marc Jones and the Rams’ Mat
Nesbitt both had nine tackles to lead all players. Clark Gates,
Tamon George, Steve Ryan, and Andrew Rumbaugh each recorded
interceptions for Regina.
The No. 8 Rams will travel to No. 3 Manitoba to face the 6-0
Bisons next week, while Alberta will play No. 5 Saskatchewan
(4-2) in Edmonton.
