Moore offers more on Defensive Line

By Greg Urbanoski

To be the best, you have to play the best.

That’s probably one of the thoughts and perhaps the deciding factor as James Moore toured the University of Regina Rams facilities this weekend to decide where he was going to play post-secondary football.

Moore, 17 years old and 6’1”, 260 lbs, played last year for the number one ranked St. Michael’s College in Toronto as a centre and defensive lineman. He’s now looking to continue his education and football career and has narrowed his choices to the Rams and the University of Western Ontario and University of Ottawa.

Moore played with the Mississauga Warriors of the Ontario Varsity Football League and won the 2006 Leadership Trophy for the Warriors. The Rams would like to look at Moore on the defensive line, something Moore is entirely comfortable with.

“The Canada West Conference has a reputation in Ontario and the rest of Canada as playing the most hard-nosed football in Canada,” said Moore.

“That’s something that has definitely attracted me to Regina.”

While Moore hails from Ontario, his family does have roots in Saskatchewan. His grandfather was born just outside of Regina.

“I’ve been touring the university and hanging out in the club house,” said Moore.

“The facilities here have really impressive and they are second to none. From everything that I’ve seen, this program is going nowhere but up.”

Moore has been whittling down his list of universities, including McGill, University of Calgary and University of British Columbia to his final three choices. He hopes to be making a decision by the end of the week.

“I’ve played both ways but I have definitely been more of a d-line player,” said Moore.

“If they want me to line up on the d-line side of the ball that would definitely make me happy.”

Moore is looking at entering the Arts or Social Sciences program if he decides to come to the University of Regina. Once he gets enrolled and gets a feel for the classes, then he will narrow his education options.
