The University of Regina Rams donated an
unclaimed 50/50 ticket from a Saskatchewan Roughriders’ 2007 home game valued
at $19,234.00 to KidSport™ Saskatchewan today during a media conference at the
Sacred Heart Community School in Regina.
The funds will be distributed by KidSport™ to
children in need across the province to cover the cost of community sport
registration fees, and in some cases sporting equipment, so all
kids can play.
"The University of Regina Rams are proud to
be able to make a donation to KidSport™ Saskatchewan through the support of
the Saskatchewan Roughriders and their fans. We believe strongly in supporting
this charity as sport is such a valuable tool to a more healthy, active
lifestyle and all kids should have the opportunity to play," said Gary
Surkan, Rams President.
Through sport, children learn invaluable skills
and attributes such as teamwork, responsibility, goal setting, and
self-confidence, which will help them to succeed in every aspect of their lives.
Unfortunately, there are many children in Saskatchewan who are unable to
participate in sport because their families cannot afford the costs, and the
need continues to increase every year.
"KidSport™ enables children to play in the
community sport program of their choice," says Don McDougall, Chair of
KidSport™ Saskatchewan. "Thanks to the support of organizations such as
the University of Regina Rams and the Saskatchewan Roughriders, KidSport™ is
able to reach more children than ever before and ensure that everyone has the
same opportunity to grow and develop through sport."
Saskatchewan Roughriders CEO Jim Hopson, were
also in attendance to support KidSport™.
